The Career Readiness West Virginia initiative is a collaborative partnership developing a sustainable future for the next generation of the workforce.


The model brings together public education and local chambers of commerce, to partner with public and private sector employers, government, trades and contractors, and nonprofits to drive career and workforce development in local communities.

Thus far, twenty-one counties across the mountain state have joined the Career Readiness West Virginia initiative - each community is determined to pave a successful pathway for students through career exploration.

The initiative includes:
  • Workplace Tours
  • Career Exploration
  • Speaker Series
  • Job Shadowing
  • Job Fairs
  • Internships
  • Integrated Pathways

After participating with my Grant County colleagues and reviewing the report that followed, we embrace the idea of matching the skills and aptitude of our students to both present and future career opportunities identified. Future thinking involves proactivity, not being reactive to trends and ideas that often are outdated before they reach the mainstream. Every child deserves the chance to realize and maximize their potential. Using the report as part of our career “toolbox” will be part of the journey toward aligning career choices and the competency to ensure success."
